About the event
The Red Drum Classic is a 24 Hour Surf Fishing Tournament held in Virginia Beach, VA. The event is hosted by the Virginia Beach Anglers Club. The tournament director is Shannon Ferguson, club board member and USA Surf Fishing team athlete. The event is held annually on the beaches of Sandbridge Beach, Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, and False Cape State Park. These fishing grounds are largely a well kept secret mainly due to the sheer grit that it takes to access them. In 2025, club board members Shannon Ferguson and Chris Schramm recognized the demand for a premier tournament for our area. Multiple sponsors up and down the east coast responded and supported this vision.
In September 2026, we hosted the 1st Annual Red Drum Classic 24 hour tournament, attracting 75 anglers who caught 60 scoring fish with 26 of those fish being Red Drum. We also handed…
