The club’s inaugural Red Drum Classic surf fishing tournament has come and gone. Mother nature and the fish all cooperated. For those who did not know, the club hosted a 24-hour surf fishing event staged out of Little Island Park at the southernmost end of Sandbridge on September 18th.

This tournament was nothing more than an idea last March. Chris Schramm and I worked tirelessly recruiting sponsors, coordinating activities, and marketing the event. In addition, many more club volunteers gave their time to make the event a total success. In the end, 75 anglers entered the event and caught, scored and released 26 drum that were part of a total of 60 scoring fish. Prizes were given in divisions for men, women and youth for the biggest red drum, largest bluefish and longest roundhead as well is the Stan Sutliff most outstanding angler award. Anglers came from as far away as Delaware and West Virginia.
